23 Days – I run for life

I think it is safe to say that making it to the start line of the Goofy Challenge may be a greater feat than actually completing it. This year is almost over and with it I sneak towards my goal of running 1,000 miles in a year. Of course, this is not a lot for a distance runner, but it seems like I have faced one challenge after another to do something so simple as to run. The sciatica improves with every Bikram class that I take, but the classes are so draining that it is difficult to keep up my regular running regime as well. Just as I began too, another challenge awaited me. This morning I woke up with a swollen toe. I have no idea what I did… maybe I stubbed it and fractured or sprained it. All I know is that it was too painful to lace on my running shoes at 5:30am this morning.

Today is our holiday pot luck and Secret Santa gift exchange at work. It is also the day that we will be given our bonus checks, so it can really be nothing but a happy day. I AM happy this Christmas season, but it is around this time of year that I find myself reflecting on my life, especially ocoming up on the year I will turn 30. What do I want to accomplish when I grow up. Have I maybe already done that? Nah, not a chance.

So as for me, I’m happy. There will be changes in my life, other than my recent decision to go brunette. Big plans await me on this year of my 30th birthday. I am excited to start my new year with a 39.3 mile challenge and then pop into a car a week or so later and go find Dean on his adventure across the US. Most importantly, 2007 is the year that I will qualify for Western States.
